From Hashtag to Movement: The Story Behind #electronicsdumb

What began as a simple joke in our home quickly turned into a relatable truth shared by families everywhere. In today’s world, electronics dominate our daily lives — and while they offer convenience, they’ve also led to something we couldn’t ignore: reduced social interaction, a decline in logical thinking, and a serious hit to basic common sense.

As a single mom balancing work and parenting, I leaned on screens to keep my kids entertained. But soon, I saw the side effects firsthand: mood swings, isolation, and a lack of critical thinking. Out of frustration (and a bit of humor), I coined the phrase #electronicsdumb — a lighthearted way to call out those “tech-fail” moments when we clearly weren’t thinking things through.

At first, we laughed. Then we started noticing these moments everywhere — in public, at home, with friends — and it became clear: #electronicsdumb was more than a joke. It was a wake-up call.
So we turned it into something positive.

We put the phrase on a T-shirt and began documenting real-life examples, encouraging others to laugh, reflect, and rethink screen time. As a family, we committed to cutting back on electronics and spending more time on what really matters — health, academics, creativity, and yes, even ‘touching grass.’
We hope our story inspires you to do the same.

Let’s raise awareness, spark conversations, and make #electronicsdumb a movement toward smarter living — one memory at a time.
